Late Chick’s owner’s Jackie Gleason home up for auction

WEST HAVEN >> Sunday, on the very day that West Haven’s iconic Chick’s Drive-In serves it’s last lobster rolls and Savin Rock-style split hot dogs, another key piece of the late Joseph E. “Chick” Celentano’s legacy is likely to be disposed some 1,300 miles to the south.
Down in the Hills of Inverrary, a gated community in Lauderhill, Florida, just west of Ft. Lauderdale, Glea Manor, the 6,000-square-foot lakefront home on a golf course — actor Jackie Gleason’s former home — that Celentano bought for $550,000 in cash back in 1992 will be up for auction, with many of Gleason’s former possessions still in it.
The 6-bedroom, 8 bathroom home, which the Hills of Inverrary homeowners association foreclosed on last February after Celentano, who died July 23 at age 82, failed to pay $21,000 in association fees, is where Gleason — best known for his roles as Ralph Kramden in “The Honeymooners” TV sitcom and Minnesota Fats in the 1961 movie classic, “The Hustler,” lived from 1972 until his death in 1987.
Once a celebrated, spectacular home, it’s now in need of some care, according to the head of the auction housePlease click here to continue reading.
